How to do a Photoshoot in Montmartre

Montmartre is hands down one of the dreamiest neighborhoods in Paris. With cobblestone streets, pastel buildings, and that view over the city, it’s a photographer’s playground and the perfect place to wander with your camera (or your favorite person and a photographer).

Here are some of my favorite spots & tips for shooting in Montmartre!

What time to go

Early morning is where the magic happens. Montmartre gets busy fast, especially around Sacré-Cœur and La Maison Rose. Shooting just after sunrise means softer light, fewer crowds, and a much more peaceful, romantic vibe. Trust me, it’s worth the early wake-up call! That said, evening golden hour in Montmartre also offers the most stunning light, as it becomes just drenched in that golden glow before sunset. Both times will make for beautiful photos, so see what works best for you!

Where to go

Sacre-Cœur Lookout

Start your morning here (bonus points for sunrise!). The view over Paris from the top of the steps is unbeatable, and the soft morning light makes it feel like the whole city is waking up just for you.

Two people, backs facing, point at a Paris from a hilltop. City buildings are bathed in warm light, suggesting a serene atmosphere.

Place du Tertre

This lively square is full of artists painting and sketching—it’s like walking into a postcard. The colorful awnings and old cafés make a great backdrop, especially if you love a more candid, street-style feel.

Rue de l’Abreuvoir

Possibly the most charming street in all of Paris. It winds just perfectly, framed by ivy-covered houses and that classic view of the Sacré-Cœur peeking through in the background.

La Maison Rose

Right at the corner of Rue de l’Abreuvoir sits this iconic pink café. It’s one of the most photographed spots in Montmartre for a reason—and yes, it’s even cuter in person.

Le Consulat Café

Another classic! With its old-school red and green façade, this little café screams vintage Paris charm. Even just passing by makes for the sweetest street portraits.

Montmartre is full of surprises, and honestly, getting a little lost is part of the charm. If you're planning to explore it soon and want to capture those dreamy moments in a timeless way, I’d love to join you for a session.
